Geoff Leader
Geoff has been a professional hornist since 1976. He has performed with symphony orchestras in Vancouver, Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton, Victoria, Kamloops, Kelowna and Prince George, as well as the Vancouver Opera, National Ballet, Canadian Opera Company and the North Shore Sinfonia. Geoff also recently recorded music for the upcoming television series “Robson Arms”, and was principal horn for the Vancouver Centre’s production of “42nd Street” in December 2003.

Geoff is also principal horn of the Abbotsford Symphony, and was featured soloist in a performance of Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4 in
March 2003. In March 2005, he performed Mozart’s Concert Rondo and Horn Concerto No.3 with the Fraser Valley Symphony in Abbotsford.

In 1977, Geoff won double first prize in the National Competitive Festival of Music in both the Brass Solo and Chamber Music categories
(with A Touch Of Brass). He received his Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto in 1984. He also studied with distinguished faculty at the Banff School of Fine Arts for three summers (Canadian Brass, Barry Tuckwell, Philip Farkas), and in Chicago with Dale Clevenger.

Active in music education, Geoff has been an instructor with the Surrey School District since 1986. He has been a featured presenter,
clinician and soloist at the British Columbia Music Educators’ Conference, brass coach for the Vancouver Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Chamber Music Instructor at the Courtney Youth Music Camp. A Gold Award winner as conductor at Musicfest Canada, Geoff has also been Horn Clinician at the West Coast Amateur Music Festival for several years.
